PMDG: the 737 heads to PlayStation 5, and first 747 previews arrive this week

PMDG’s Robert Randazzo has posted a long update on where the studio stands. According to MSFS Addons, PMDG went quiet because it was juggling several projects at once, mostly on the business side. The headlines: the 737 is much more stable, it’s heading to PlayStation 5, and the first 747 previews should appear this week.

What we know:

  • after a four-month rework, the 737 crashes far less often from WASM errors, and crash-related support requests have dropped sharply;
  • the 737-800 has passed PS5 approval and is now scheduled for release;
  • PMDG hopes to release the rest of the 737 family on PS5 by the end of October;
  • the 777 is being prepared for its final check, with no timeline yet;
  • 737 and 777 updates are slower for now, because the whole team has been on the 747 since early summer;
  • the 747-100 and 747-400 will be the first variants, with no release date yet.

Getting onto the console hasn’t been easy. PMDG’s first PS5 aircraft was the 777F back in July. In the first round only the 777F and DC-6 passed, while seven other products got fault reports, so for two months the studio resubmitted almost every week. PMDG says the process taught it to optimise better for MSFS 2024 on every platform.

PMDG says that after the 747 ships, it will go through all bug reports for the 737 and 777. Randazzo also asked simmers to support BlueBird’s 757, which launches on October 23.

If you’re waiting for the 747, keep an eye out over the next few days. And if you fly the 737 on PC, make sure you’re on the latest version, since that’s where all the crash fixes are.
